Celtics hire Darren Erman as scouting director

The Celtics hired Darren Erman as director of NBA scouting, president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Tuesday.

Erman previously worked for the Celtics as an assistant coach for four seasons under Doc Rivers— including the team’s 2007-08 championship season — before joining the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach.

“We hated to see him go,” Ainge said. “We love his work ethic and intelligence and capabilities and feel like we lost a valuable member of our organization when he was given a great opportunity out in Golden State. We’re happy to have him back.”

Erman was available after being fired by the Warriors earlier this month reportedly for taping conversations with fellow members of the coaching staff without their knowledge.

Speaking generally of Erman’s situation with the Warriors, Ainge said, “I’m not concerned at all.”

The Warriors also recently cut ties with another member of their coaching staff, former Celtics forward Brian Scalabrine.
