Every Sunday, Boston Globe photographer Stan Grossfeld asks the subject of one of his photos to explain what’s happening in the shot.

What’s up today: Dave Potter of Hanover, his 8-year-old daughter, Addisyn, and their 5-month-old puppy, Lyla, were on the move at Nantasket Beach, where the air temperature was in the mid-70s but the water temperature was barely 50 degrees, on May 11:

Dave Potter: “I was thinking, this is too cold, let’s get out of here. It’s the first time in this year. I came here in shorts and sneakers but I took off my sneakers as soon as I got here. Finally it is a nice day. I knew I was going to the edge, I didn’t know I’d go that far in. Actually, the water wasn’t too bad. It was very refreshing. Now Lyla, she loves it. This is her second time in. Hey Addi, what were we thinking when we were running out of the water?
