Dracut senior Karina Shepard was named the 2013-14 Gatorade Massachusetts girls track and field player of the year after a championship performance as a middle distance runner.
Shepard set a meet record at this season’s All-State Championships, winning the 800 with a time of two minutes, 7.14 seconds. She also anchored Dracut’s 4x800 relay team, which finished fourth at the All-State meet (2:13.2).
The player of the year award is given for both academic and athletic success. Shepard had a 4.46 weighted GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also volunteers with her church, with the BayState Marathon, and is a youth track instructor.
She will compete at Stanford on a track and field scholarship next year.
