Carp had asked the Red Sox to trade him after the All-Star break. He played a limited role this season, batting. .198 with nine RBIs in 42 games. He was put on the DL for a week in early July after fracturing his foot.

The Red Sox recalled RHP Steven Wright from Triple A Pawtucket Sunday after optioning Alex Wilson to Pawtucket after Saturday’s game. Wright was supposed to start for Pawtucket Sunday.
