Patriots release Marcus Forston and D.J. Williams

The Patriots released defensive lineman Marcus Forston and tight end D.J. Williams Thursday.

Forston, 24, spent most of the 2013 season on the practice squad, but did play in three games and have three tackles.

Williams, 25, played in two games for New England last season, against the Texans and Bills in December, but did not have any receptions. He spent most of last season with the Jaguars.

The Patriots, who face the Carolina Panthers Friday night in their third preseason game, must trim their roster to 75 by Tuesday and to 53 on Aug. 30.
