Patriots defensive lineman Chandler Jones was named the AFC defensive player of the week, the NFL announced Wednesday.

In a victory over the Vikings on Sunday, Jones had two sacks and also blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown. He had eight tackles.

Jones was on the field for 66 plays Sunday, and has been on the field for 97 percent of the snaps while the Patriots have been on defense this year.

Jones was quick to credit the Patriots defense as a whole in a message on Twitter.

Chargers tight end Antonio Gates was the AFC offensive player of the week and Bills running back C.J. Spiller was the AFC’s special teams player of the week. In the NFC, Eagles running back Darren Sproles, Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller and Cardinals kick returner Ted Ginn Jr. were the weekly award winners.
