2015 Girls’ Track All-Scholastics

Athlete of the Year

Brianna Duncan, Cambridge, junior

The first girl to win three events at All-States, Duncan placed first in the 100 meters (11.97 seconds), long jump (18 feet, 8¾ inches), and triple jump (36-8). The junior also won the same three events at the Division 1 meet.

All-Scholastics

Skylar Barthelmes, Dartmouth, junior

The junior won the All-State shot put title at 41 feet, 5 inches, took second at the New England championships with a 42-foot throw, and won the Division 2 title (38-11¼). Barthelmes also plays volleyball for the Indians.

Danae Bucci, Bedford, senior

The Northeastern-bound senior cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to win the Division 3 high jump title and recorded a jump of 5 feet, 4 inches to take third at the All-State meet. Bucci is also an indoor track All-Scholastic.

Margie Cullen, Needham, junior

Cullen, a junior, won the All-State 2-mile title in 10:41.42 and captured the Division 1 crown in 11:07.36. She also earned All-Scholastic honors during the indoor season and the 2014 cross-country season.

Isabella DiMare, Notre Dame (Hingham), senior

DiMare dominated the 100-meter hurdles this season, claiming the All-State (14.90 seconds), Division 2 (14.87), and State Coaches (14.84) titles. The senior also helped Notre Dame capture the Division 2 crown.

Sierra Irvin, Hingham, senior

The senior captured the 400-meter title at All-States (56.03 seconds) and at the Division 2 championships (56.65). She also helped Hingham claim the team title at the Division 2 relay meet, anchoring the winning 4 x 200.

Ariel Keklak, Lincoln-Sudbury, junior

The All-Scholastic in cross-country and indoor track won the All-State mile in 4:53.83 and captured the Division 1 mile in 4:53.42. The junior also took second in the mile at the New Balance Nationals in 4:49.27.

Ashley Lewis, Latin Academy, junior

Lewis, a junior, captured the 400-meter title at New Englands in 56.74 seconds, over a second faster than the runner-up. She finished third at All-States in 56.72 seconds and took second at the Division 2 meet (57.03).

Jessica Maki, Taunton, senior

Maki claimed the All-State 400-meter hurdles crown in a personal-best 1:02.53 and won the State Coaches title in 1:05.27. The senior took fourth at the Division 1 meet, finishing in 1:04.93. Maki will run track at UMass-Lowell.

Clare Martin, Newton South, sophomore

The sophomore captured the 800-meter title at All-States in 2:10.27, setting a school record. She also claimed the Division 1 crown in 2:10.87. Martin finished fourth in the 800 at the New England championship (2:12.27).

Stephanie McFadries, Burlington, senior

McFadries, a senior, won the All-State javelin title with a throw of 127 feet, 9 inches. She finished third at the Division 3 meet (124 feet, 4 inches). McFadries, who also plays volleyball, will compete at Worcester State next year.

Emily Mikoud, Plymouth South, sophomore

In her first season on the team, the sophomore won the All-State discus title with a throw of 129 feet, 7 inches. She also won the Division 2 title (115-4) and took second at the New England championship (130-4).

Abby Taussig, Acton-Boxboro, senior

The senior amassed 2,755 points to win the All-State pentathlon and claimed the Division 1 pentathlon title with 2,697 points. She was also the DCL champion in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 16.03 seconds.

Julia Valenti, North Reading, junior

The Cape Ann League Athlete of the Year cleared 11 feet, 9 inches to win the All-State pole vault title and won the Division 4 crown with a vault of 12-7½. Valenti took third in the All-State 100-meter hurdles (15.18).

Brooke-Lynn Williams, Norton, sophomore

Williams helped the Lancers claim the Division 4 title with victories in the 200 meters (25.01) and 100 (12.19). The sophomore also won the All-State 200 title in 24.93 and finished second in the 100 (12.26).

Relays

Wellesley, 4 x 100

From left, junior Tatiana Jarostchuk, freshman Rachelle Parker, Villanova-bound senior Julie Greenwald, and junior Ally Isley won the All-State (49.05), Division 2 (48.98), and State Coaches (50.49) titles. The quartet helped Wellesley finish second at the Division 2 relays and third at the Division 2 championship.

Mansfield, 4 x 400

From left, senior Mikaila Amerantes, sophomore Kathryn Rowe, juniors Rachel Stier and Jacqueline Dickmann captured the All-State title in 3:57.33, won the Division 1 championship in 4:00.31, and claimed the Hockomock League title. This is the third All-Scholastic award for a Hornets 4 x 400 relay team.

Lincoln-Sudbury, 4 x 800

From left, sophomore Dana Murphy, junior Nicole Kerrigan, senior Morgane Butler, sophomore Alexa Babick, and junior Ariel Keklak combined for the All-State title (9:19.64) and the Division 1 title (9:29.26). Also an indoor track All-Scholastic team, the Warriors claimed a fifth-place finish at the New England meet (9:22.86).

Coaches of the Year

Division 1: Jamalh Prince, Cambridge

The two-time Globe Coach of the Year led the Falcons to an All-State title and second place at the Division 1 meet. The Boston College graduate has coached for 20 years and helped Cambridge finish third at last year’s All-States.

Division 2: Brian Leussler, Latin Academy

The 2011 Globe boys’ indoor track Coach of the Year led the Dragons to their fourth straight City League title and also led the boys’ team to a third straight. Leussler has over 300 wins in 13 years at Latin Academy.

Division 3: John Byrnes, Tewksbury

Now a two-time Globe Coach of the Year, Byrnes led Tewksbury to the Division 3 championship, a title he said was ‘‘completely unexpected.’’ The Redmen also won their 11th straight Merrimack Valley Division 2 title.

Division 4: Kristen Polizzotto, Stoneham

Despite taking an end-of-season medical leave after being diagnosed with Type B Lymphoma while expecting her first child, Polizzotto led the Spartans to a 3-2 record. She also inspired the team to start a Relay for Life squad.
