    2015 Softball All-Scholastics

    Silver Lake pitcher Maddy Barone earned Division 1 Player of the Year honors.

    Players of the Year

    Division 1: Maddy Barone, Silver Lake, junior

    The junior pitcher led the Lakers to a 24-2 record and a spot in the Division 1 state championship. She compiled 234 strikeouts and a 0.38 ERA and was named Patriot League MVP. Barone had a .407 batting average with 23 RBIs.

    Division 2: Patricia Newhard, Dennis-Yarmouth, senior

    The senior center fielder batted .581 in the regular season and lead the Dolphins to an 18-2 record. Plymouth State-bound, Newhard hit two homers and had 29 RBIs this year. She also plays field hockey and basketball.

    Division 3: Autumn Kligerman, Amesbury, senior

    The UMass-bound third baseman was named Cape Ann League Player of the Year. She led Amesbury to the North sectional title and posted a .420 batting average with six home runs and 36 runs batted in.

    All-Scholastics

    Leslie Denis, Case, senior

    The two-time South Coast Conference All-Star pitcher posted a 0.95 ERA this season with 183 strikeouts and a 19-3 record. Denis batted .419 with 26 RBIs and a .585 on-base percentage. She will play softball at Post University.

    The three-time Greater Boston League MVP threw two no-hitters and had nine shutouts this season. She finished with a 1.06 ERA and 216 strikeouts. Offensively, Eisnor batted .484 and hit six home runs.

    Kayleigh Forgetta, Methuen, senior

    The Merrimack Valley co-Player of the Year had a 1.32 ERA and led Methuen to a 20-3 record and trip to the Division 1 semifinals. The UMass-Lowell-bound senior is also a member of the National Honor Society.

    Erin Garczynski, Norwood, senior

    The Bay State Herget MVP batted .656 this season with three homers and 32 RBIs. She helped lead Norwood to a 19-1 regular-season record as its catcher and will attend Southern New Hampshire University next fall.

    Emma Kraus, Wakefield, senior

    The third baseman posted a .499 average with 3 homers, 37 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. Kraus was named Middlesex Freedom MVP for the second year in a row and set school records with 98 RBIs and 71 stolen bases.

    Emily Kurkul, Bridgewater-Raynham, senior

    The catcher hit .493 with three home runs and 29 RBIs. She had an .859 slugging percentage and a .524 on-base percentage. Kurkul managed not to strike out this season. She will play softball at Merrimack.

    Jennifer Lee, Woburn, senior

    The Middlesex Liberty MVP posted a .681 average with 12 home runs and 43 RBIs. The center fielder was named MIAA student athlete of the month in April, and was an All-Scholastic in indoor track.

    Kali Magane, King Philip, junior

    The pitcher went 16-2 with a 0.28 ERA and 159 strikeouts. She threw one no-hitter and had one perfect game on her way to Hockomock All-Star honors. Magane is also a member of the National Honor Society.

    Caitlin McBride, Danvers, senior

    McBride batted .627 with 2 homers, 24 RBIs, and 20 runs this year. The catcher also called every pitch of the season. McBride finished her career with a .633 batting average and 118 RBIs. She plans to play at Merrimack.

    Jill Miller, Apponequet, senior

    A four-time South Coast Conference All-Star, Miller had a team-best .523 batting average with three homers and 28 RBIs, including seven game-winning RBIs. The third baseman had a career batting average of .556.

    Sabrina Palermo, Revere, senior

    The pitcher finished 16-6 with 156 strikeouts and a 1.58 ERA. Palermo was named Northeast Conference MVP this season. She finished her career with 698 strikeouts. She’ll attend Arizona State.

    Kelly Reading, Taunton, senior

    The Hockomock MVP finished the season with a .421 batting average, 10 RBIs, and 31 runs scored. The outfielder lead Taunton to a 20-2 regular-season record. She will play softball at Cedar Crest College next spring.

    Michaela Reeves, Reading, senior

    The pitcher posted a 1.46 ERA with 115 strikeouts and helped lead Reading to a 21-2 record and a spot in the Division 2 state championship. The Simmons-commit is a two-sport athlete and runs cross-country in the fall.

    Kayla Sullivan, Hopkinton, senior

    The outfielder was named Tri-Valley League MVP. She compiled a .516 batting average along with 6 home runs and 36 RBIs. She was named Tri-Valley All-Star in field hockey as well. Sullivan will attend Quinnipiac.

    Gabby Vachon, Newton North, junior

    The Bay State Carey MVP compiled a 14-2 record and an ERA of 0.93 as she led Newton North to a 18-2 regular-season record. At the plate, the Southern New Hampshire-commit hit four home runs with 29 RBIs.

    Coaches of the Year

    Division 1: Antonio Pina, Silver Lake

    In his second year as the Lakers’ coach, Silver Lake went 24-2 and advanced to the state title game. It was the deepest postseason run program history. A teacher at the school for 19 years, Pina was also the JV coach for three years.

    Division 2: Jill McElroy, Reading

    McElroy led the Rockets to a 22-3 record and a spot in the Division 2 state championship game. McElroy and the Rockets won the Middlesex League and the Division 2 North titles. Her 19-year career mark is 322-110.

    Division 3: Christopher Perry, Amesbury

    The 2015 Cape Ann League Coach of the Year led Amesbury (21-3) to a spot in the Division 3 state tournament. In his 31st year as softball coach, Perry helped Amesbury win the Cape Ann League and the Division 3 North crowns.

    How we picked them: The All-Scholastic softball team was selected by the school sports staff. Selection is limited to MIAA schools that compete in EMass leagues.
