Patriots’ defensive end Andre Carter will be placed on season-ending injured reserve due to the left quadriceps injury he suffered yesterday against the Broncos, a league source confirms. The move will likely come tomorrow.
Last night we learned that Carter would require surgery for the injury, suffered on the final play of the first quarter, but it wasn’t certain at the time whether he would be out for the remainder of the year.
Signed as a veteran free agent at the start of training camp, Carter quickly became the Patriots’ most consistent pass-rusher — he racked up 10 sacks and was credited with 22 quarterback hits — but also was very good against the run.
In a conference call this afternoon, Bill Belichick said he would be speaking with the team’s medical staff on Carter’s status sometime after the call ended.
