Upper Cape earns first playoff berth

A 34-30 loss to Holbrook-Avon (6-3, 3-3) on Nov. 10 put Upper Cape in a precarious position. But the Rams (9-1, 4-1) took care of their holiday opponent, beating Cape Cod Tech, 42-18, Thursday, then had to hope West Bridgewater beat Holbrook-Avon to secure the the school’s first playoff berth. A Holbrook-Avon win would mean a three-way tie for the Mayflower Small and a coin flip to determine the berth.

West Bridgewater did its part and won to help the Rams clinch a Division 5 Super Bowl berth against Dorchester (10-0) on Dec. 1.

“We’ve been in playoff mode for five weeks now, so we’ll be ready for this,” said Upper Cape coach Mike Hernon.
