It’s not an event normally seen in Massachusetts, but that didn’t stop Adam Bonfilio from proving he’s one of the top track and field athletes in the country.
The Burlington senior finished third in the octathlon Saturday at the New Balance National Outdoor Championships in Greensboro, N.C. The octathlon is a collection of eight events, one-day version of the decathlon but without the discus and pole vault, and the 1,000 meters instead of 1,500. Last year Bonfilio, who will attend UMass in the fall, finished fourth. The top six earn All-America status.
