Players to watch in boys’ soccer

Lucas Rezende-Verge, Weymouth — The Warriors’ senior goalkeeper was one of the best last season, allowing just eight goals in 18 games (sixth fewest goals allowed in MIAA competition). Verge will play a vital role in determining how good the Warriors are this season.

Justin Kaplan, Medway — Kaplan has led the Mustangs in scoring the past two years, and totaled 24 points (17 goals, seven assists) last season. If the Mustangs want to contend for the Division 3 title, Kaplan will need to help in attack against the likes of Dover-Sherborn and Oliver Ames.

Thayrone Miranda, Somerville — Miranda, who led the MIAA in points last year with 48 (23 goals, 25 assists), is on a team that returns eight starters. The senior is also one of two players in the state on the All-American watch list.

Michael Dushman, Bedford — The midfielder was named the Dual County League Small MVP last season. Dushman, who scored 15 goals with 10 assists last season, is also on the All-American watch list.

Aram Ouligian, Needham — A junior captain, Ouligian was a key part of one of the best defenses in the state last fall. The Rockets lost numerous starters from last season, but Ouligian will be a determining factor in whether the Rockets are able to defend their Division 1 title. Look for him to play more of a role in defensive midfield this season.
