What is it about Tuesday?
The Red Sox are 15-2 on Tuesdays, the best record on that day in baseball after a 10-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park.
“Let every day be Tuesday then,” quipped Jackie Bradley Jr. “I didn’t know we were so good on Tuesdays. But yeah, it’s Tuesday and we’re feeling pretty good. Maybe there’s something to it.”
When told of the unusual feat, Xander Bogaerts had a funny reaction, “Ah c’mon man! Really?”
Feel any different on Tuesdays?
“Not really, man,” Bogaerts said.
This is the best Tuesday story since Mitch Albom’s “Tuesday’s With Morrie.”

First of all, let’s start with last night. The Red Sox turned a triple play for the first time in six years. It was the perfect storm. Slow-footed Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina hit a grounder to third and Rafael Devers turned and stepped on the bag before winging it to second baseman Eduardo Nunez, who made the quick turn and threw to first baseman Mitch Moreland.
“Since I was the only one who wasn’t involved it was pretty neat to watch it,” Bogaerts said of the first triple play the Red Sox tuned since Aug. 16, 2011. The Red Sox have turned 31 triple plays in their history.
On this night, the Red Sox also went a season-tying 17 games over .500. They also went homerless, giving them 21 wins in games without homers, the most in baseball.
“We don’t have to hit home runs to win games,” Bradley Jr. said. “We can win games in different ways.”
The Sox scored eight runs in the fifth inning to break this wide open, and by the end of the fifth all nine batters had recorded at least one hit. It was also the second time in four games the Sox scored 10 runs and the third time they’d scored 10 runs without the aid of a home run.
