Who are the Boston Marathoners, and where do they come from?

More than 30,000 runners are registered to run the 121st Boston Marathon on Monday.

Here is a closer look at the field:

■ There are 30,056 set to participate in the race, down 600 runners from last year’s field.

■ There is a greater percentage of men (54.4) than women (45.6) in the field. Last year, women made up 45.9 percent of the field compared to 54.1 percent for men.

■ The average age of the field is 42.729.

■ The average age for women is 40.1 and 44.9 for men.

■The oldest male runner is 84, from Marblehead, and the oldest woman is also 84, from Santa Cruz, Calif.

■ There are 58 runners who are 75 years or older.

■ The most runners are in the 45 to 54 age bracket.

■ All 50 states will be represented, with Massachussets claiming the most (5,103) followed by California (2,351), and New York (1,562). Wyoming is sending the fewest (23) followed by Mississippi (31), and North Dakota (34).

■ Ninety-five countries will be represented.

■ Nineteen countries are sending one participant: Eritrea, Falkland Islands, Jamaica, Kuwait Lebanon, Malta, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Paraguay, San Marino, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, and Zimbabwe.

■ Other than the United States (23,844) and Canada (2,105), 14 countries are sending at least 100 runners.
