New England did slightly better than the most of the country in attracting venture capital during the third quarter of 2012. Venture capitalists invested $6.5 billion in 890 deals in the third quarter of 2012, a decline of 11 percent in terms of dollars and five percent in the number of deals compared to the second quarter of 2012 when $7.3 billion was invested in 935 deals. New England companies raised $826 million, down slightly from the previous quarter, but significantly higher than the third quarter of 2011, when New England start-ups raised $690.5 million.
