Radar speed signs in Vermont tell drivers if they’re ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’

Radar speed signs in Chester, Vt., are reminding drivers to slow down and get in the holiday spirit.

The Chester Police Department recently posted photos on Facebook of signs on Route 103 that tell motorists that they’re “NAUGHTY“ if they’re driving more than 30 miles per hour. Illuminated red numbers show how fast they’re going.

For motorists traveling under the speed limit, the word “NICE” appears and the numbers appear in green.

“We received a request direct from the North Pole to remind everyone that Santa is still making his list and checking it twice, and to make sure to have a safe and happy holiday season!” police wrote on Facebook.

Detective Adam Woodell said five naughty-or-nice radar speed signs are being used in town. Woodell said the idea for the signs came from the town clerk, who noticed similar signs in the town of Manchester, Vt.

The signs have caught the attention of many drivers, and Woodell said the feedback has been positive thus far. One gentleman called the Police Department and said “he had the giggles that he’d been called naughty at his age,” he said.
