Two bicyclists suffered life-threatening injuries and a third was seriously injured after they were struck by a car on Topsfield Road in Ipswich Thursday afternoon, Police Chief Paul A. Nikas said in a statement.
The two cyclists, men ages 58 and 19, were flown by helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Their conditions were not known.
The third cyclist, a 60-year-old woman, was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious but not life-threatening, according to the statement.
The crash occurred at 2:11 p.m. in the area of 197 Topsfield Road, near the Turner Hill Golf Club. The three cyclists were struck by a Kia Soul driven by a 43-year-old woman from Ipswich, police said.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with police. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that are not believed to be serious.
As of early Thursday evening, no charges had been filed.
The crash remains under investigation by Ipswich and State Police.
