Needham’s new assistant town manager previously served in Boston

Needham recently tapped a Boston city official to serve as its new assistant town manager/director of operations.

Katie King, who most recently served as director of the mayor’s Office of Intergovernmental Relations in Boston, assumed her new position in Needham June 1.

A Boston resident, she succeeded Christopher Coleman, who resigned last October to become town administrator in Westwood. In her new post, King is responsible for working with Town Manager Kate Fitzpatrick and department managers to implement town policies in areas ranging from planning and budgeting to human resources. During seven years working for Boston, she also served as the city’s director and assistant director of state relations.

“We’re excited that Katie is joining us,” Fitzpatrick said in a statement. “Her experience and skill in managing complex organizations and her commitment to public service will be incredibly valuable to the work we’re doing on behalf of the residents and businesses of Needham.”
