It doesn’t take cold turkey for heavy tech users to disconnect

AP

Re “Saving ourselves from tech addiction” by Greg M. Epstein (Ideas, Jan. 3): This was such a timely article. I have long been aware of the subconscious stress my phone causes me, yet I am unable to disconnect completely. Like Epstein, I’ve rediscovered the peace of engaging with analog mediums such as printed newspapers and notebooks. Considering our 2-year-old son, we think a lot about how to shape his relationship with technology, and we believe that it is so important that his play and stimulation are balanced with occasional boredom and stillness. As with most things, the key to saving ourselves from tech addiction is balance, not elimination.
