Man attacked in Roxbury home on Christmas Eve dies of injuries

The 66-year-old man who was brutally attacked inside his Roxbury home on Christmas Eve died Tuesday of his injuries, the office of Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins said.

Bruce Rose suffered a serious head injury after Wyse Richardson, 23, allegedly broke into his Pompeii Street apartment at about 11 p.m., violently beat him, and ransacked the apartment, the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Rose was taken to an area hospital, where he died, the statement said.

Richardson, who was previously arraigned in the Roxbury division of Boston Municipal Court on Dec. 28, is expected to be arraigned on new charges on Jan. 15, the statement said.

The new charges were not specified on Tuesday.

He was previously charged with aggravated assault and battery on a person over 60 and aggravated burglary, the statement said. He was also ordered to undergo an evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.

Rollins pledged to bring justice for Rose’s family.

“Mr. Richardson is accused of a violent attack that robbed Mr. Rose of his life,” she said in the statement. “He will be held accountable for the harm he is alleged to have inflicted.”
