A 16-year-old boy drowned in Learned Pond in Framingham Wednesday evening, a fire official said.
Police received a 911 call at 6:13 p.m. from a person at the beach who was approached by a juvenile who said his friend was in the water and he could not find him, Deputy Police Chief Sean Riley said in a phone interview.
Officers responded to the scene “within one minute or so” and could not locate the boy by visual observation, Riley said. The officers went into the water and pulled him out.
They began performing CPR on him at the scene, he said.

The boy was taken to MetroWest Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m., Riley said.
Police believe he was swinging on a rope swing attached to a tree and was not able to swim when he jumped into the water, Riley said.
The boy is not being identified, as family members are being notified, he said.
Temperatures in Framingham were in the low 90s on Wednesday, Kevin Cadima, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Norton said in a brief phone interview.
Lakes and ponds are typically around 60 degrees in late May, he said.
State officials advise safety at all times in swimming areas.
Anyone who does not know how to swim is advised to stay in shallow areas, and people should swim only in designated areas where a lifeguard is present, according to the State’s water safety guidelines.
