Revere man, 23, shot and killed by his uncle outside courthouse in Medford

A 23-year-old man from Revere was shot and killed by his uncle outside a courthouse in Medford Thursday evening, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office said.

The victim, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, Ryan’s office said in a statement.

Chenghai Xue, 44, was charged with murder and will be arraigned Friday at Somerville District Court, the Middlesex district attorney’s office said in a statement.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

Police arrested Xue following the fatal shooting at 4:50 p.m. outside of the Cambridge District Courthouse on Mystic Valley Parkway, the statement said.

Xue was at the courthouse seeking an extension for a restraining order against his nephew, according to Ryan’s office. After the hearing, Xue and his nephew left the courthouse for their cars in the parking lot.

Xue got into his car and then drove into the victim and other surrounding cars, the statement said. After he hit the victim, Xue got out of his car with a handgun and shot the victim multiple times, the statement said.

State Police and Medford police responded to the scene after a witness called 911, the office said.

The shooting is under investigation.
