How do police, prosecutors get away with sending the innocent to prison?

Christopher "Omar" Martinez stands next to his wife, Maria Felix, at the Innocence Network Conference last month in Phoenix. He was released in 2019 after nearly 20 years in prison.Adriana Zehbrauskas for The Boston Globe

Good article by Andrew Ryan about people released from prison due to wrongful convictions (“Fraternity of the freed,” Page A1, May 1). I think the other half of the story, which I have not seen covered as much in the media, is: How and why do prosecutors and police who suppress information relevant to the defense get away with that? Shouldn’t it be a crime to knowingly and wrongfully send an innocent person to jail?
