A 13-year-old boy who was missing for about 24 hours was found Thursday evening and is safe, Bellingham police said.
Asher Mahoney had last been seen in the Scott Hill Acres neighborhood around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, police said.
“We are very happy to report that Asher has been located and is safe,” police said in a Facebook post shortly before 8 p.m. “We would like to thank the numerous agencies that assisted with this matter and we are glad that the best possible outcome was achieved.”
Police had first said that Mahoney was possibly in danger. Police used K-9 teams to search for him.

The area of Easy Street and Douglas Drive was closed Thursday for the search, and people were asked to stay clear of the area, police said.
