A 53-year-old man was identified Monday as the person who suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a van while crossing a main intersection in Dorchester Sunday night State Police said.
Torrance Hodges, a Dorchester resident, was struck around 9:35 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Gallivan Boulevard, State Police spokesman David Procopio wrote in a statement.
According to Procopio, a 52-year-old man operating a 2006 Chevrolet Express van was heading south on Gallivan Boulevard, had the green light and had traveled through the intersection with Dorchester Avenue.
“The van then struck a pedestrian, Torrance Hodges, 53, of Dorchester, who was crossing Gallivan Boulevard,’' Procopio wrote.
Hodges was rushed to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, State Police said.
The driver was transported to Carney Hospital in Boston with injuries not considered life-threatening, State Police said.
The investigation is ongoing, Procopio said.
