79-year-old Acton man arrested on child enticement charges

A 79-year-old man was arrested Saturday night in Acton after he allegedly tried to meet up for sex with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, according to police.

Douglas Cooper of Acton is facing a charge of enticement of a child under 16 for sex, Acton police said in a statement. His bail was set at $7,540 and he was taken to the Billerica House of Correction, police said.

Arraignment information for Cooper was not immediately available Sunday, and it was unclear whether he had hired an attorney to represent him.

At 4:22 p.m. Saturday, police went to an address on Windsor Avenue in response to a tip about a man who had agreed to meet a child for sex, according to the statement.

When officers arrived, they found Cooper at that location and then interviewed him at the Acton Public Safety Facility, police said.

An initial investigation found that Cooper allegedly was sending sexually explicit messages on a cellphone application to an adult posing as a 14-year-old boy and agreed to meet at the South Acton Commuter Lot for a sexual encounter, the statement said. Cooper was arrested at approximately 9 p.m.
