Smaller, greener minibuses could be route to late-night T service

A passenger rushed to catch the 57 bus at 2:25 a.m. at Kenmore Station in March 2014 during the first night of the MBTA's pilot late-night service extension (from 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights). T officials shut the program down two years later, citing a lack of ridership and high costs.Aram Boghosian

I agree that late-night MBTA service is an important benefit for many in Boston (”Late-night T service? Eng says he’s game,” Page A1, Sept. 20). That being said, I think it is absurd to see large T buses in off hours with just one or two passengers. Has the T considered investing in smaller EV minibuses for off hours and less-attended routes? The T could offer such service with probably lower-cost, environmentally friendly transportation options.
