‘It gives me immense pleasure to know Yankee fans are sad.’ Red Sox fans revel in schadenfreude as rival falls in World Series.

Start spreadin’ the news — Red Sox Nation is over the moon that the archrival New York Yankees lost the World Series on Wednesday night in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After the Dodgers clinched the championship, social media was awash in Sox-fueled schadenfreude, as Red Sox partisans dinged the defeated Yankees and their despondent fans, who watched the Dodgers celebrate their championship at Yankee Stadium.

Sure, the Sox didn’t even make the postseason this year, or the two years before that. But Red Sox fans are wired to revel in their rival’s misfortune.

“I’m such a petty Red Sox fan that I turned on the game just to see the Yankees lose,” one fan posted to X above a picture of the Dodgers rushing the field to celebrate their come-from-behind win. “10/10.”

Another Sox fan posted an old video clip of Red Sox players dancing in the outfield, including Mookie Betts, who now stars for the Dodgers.

“Red Sox fans after the Yankees blow a 5-0 lead to lose the World Series,” the fan wrote above the clip.

Betts, who was traded by the Red Sox in 2020, also featured in the post of another fan, who posted an old clip of him standing on first base in a Red Sox uniform.

“Thank God!” the fan wrote. “Soo happy for Mookie Betts and all Doger fans everywhere!”

A fourth fan went vintage, posting a clip of Matt Damon shouting “How do you like them apples” to a ponytailed romantic rival at a bar in “Good Will Hunting.”

“How do you like them apples NY?” the fan wrote. “As a Red Sox fan seeing the Yankees lose puts a smile on my face. Lol”

Another fan went a bit over the wall, so to speak, hopefully all in fun.

“I am so so so sooooo happy the @Yankees lost,” the fan wrote, without adding a GIF or photo. “It gives me immense pleasure to know Yankee fans are sad. They are horrible human beings and they don’t ever deserve to win another championship.”

For another fan, the Dodgers victory sweetened the night shift.

“Seeing the Yankees lose ... especially like that on my overnight shift right now is a soul pleaser,” the fan posted.

A salty civil engineer wielded profanity to express his joy over the Yankees’ meltdown in the Bronx.

“The Red Sox [expletive] stink but it’s always nice to see the Yankees lose,” said the fan, who listed his occupation in his X bio.

His post ran over a clip from the satirical cartoon “South Park,” where one kid’s licking tears off a desktop and then licking a fellow student.

A fan with a scriptural verse in his X bio showed that even people of faith can enjoy some sports-based mockery.

“Red Sox fans rejoice and America WINS hahaha SUCK IT Yankees hahaha major shambles,” wrote the devout fan.

Another fan known on X as the Patriots Luchador, in a nod to New England’s football franchise, also celebrated the Yankees defeat.

“DAAAA YANKEES LOSE!!!!” the Luchador wrote. “Love it when New York loses in Glorious fashion. Enjoy See you next season GO RED SOX”

Even an X user known as Depressed Red Sox Fan briefly emerged from the doldrums.

“i am so happy the yankees lost the World Series,” the fan wrote. “i am so beyond happy.”

Another Sox fan with ties to San Francisco said that while it was agonizing to watch the Dodgers win instead of the Giants, a Yankees defeat was still satisfying.

“The Bay Area kid in me is dying,” the fan posted over a picture of Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani sitting atop the globe in uniform. “However, the Red Sox fan in me is just happy the Yankees lost.”

Speaking of sluggers, no social media pile-on would be complete without a photo of David Ortiz, a key part of the Red Sox historic ALCS win over the Yankees in 2004 after falling behind 3-0.

(A three-part documentary series on that historic run, “The Comeback: The 2004 Boston Red Sox,” recently dropped on Netflix. Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts was on that team and had a huge steal in Game 4 to keep its playoff hopes alive.)

An X user named Michael Bond, decked out in all-Pats gear in his bio photo, stepped in to fill the Big Papi void.

Above a photo of a beaming Ortiz during the 2013 World Series, which the Red Sox won, Bond wrote simply: “Red Sox fans around the world watching the Yankees lose the world series.”
