Hans Schulz

Assistant Arts Editor

About

Assistant arts editor Hans Schulz oversees the Globe’s coverage of theater, popular music, television, and comedy, working with writers and critics to bring readers a wide-angle view of arts and entertainment, from the cultural moments and creators that matter most to the corny TV sitcoms we definitely should avoid. Before joining the Globe’s arts department in 2013, Schulz spent nearly three decades at the Concord (NH) Monitor, initially as a reporter on the crime-and-courts beat, later covering the State House, New Hampshire politics, and the first-in-the-nation presidential primary. He eventually moved over to the editing side of the paper, working at various times as the Monitor’s Sunday editor, managing editor, and city editor. He began his career in journalism as a reporter and editor at the Fitchburg-Leominster Sentinel & Enterprise; he also previously worked as a night editor at the Providence Journal. Schulz grew up in Quincy, Marshfield, and Newburyport, and is a graduate of UMass-Amherst. He is a proud former Globe paperboy.
