Heather Ciras leads the Globe newsroom’s audience initiatives, overseeing a team of social media, community, newsletter, digital analytics, and SEO experts. She is passionate about strengthening the Globe’s ties with its current readers, and building systems to reach new readers. Previously, she ran the Globe’s digital storytelling and data visuals team. Projects and initiatives she led have garnered an Edward R. Murrow award for Excellence in Social Media, and several Online Journalism Awards. She was the lead digital strategist for “Blind Spot,” which won a Pulitzer Prize in 2021. She started at the Globe as a part-time, overnight web producer in 2012. She left for a stint to serve as the first Director of Audience Development for The Marshall Project, a nonprofit news organization specializing in criminal justice coverage.
