Kristin Nelson

Head of Audio

Kristin Nelson joined the Boston Globe as Head of Audio in August of 2023. At that point she’d already been working with a team of reporters for over a year, producing and co-writing the Globe’s investigative podcast Murder in Boston: the untold story of the Charles and Carol Stuart shooting, presented with HBO Documentary Films. Kristin is an experienced journalist, documentarian and audio producer who believes in the power of the human voice to connect and move audiences. Between 2007 and 2022 she worked with national CBC Radio programs, including The Current, As It Happens, The House, Ideas and The Doc Project. She has led teams, launched new podcasts and covered everything from federal elections to water shortages in the Middle East. In 2019, she produced, co-wrote and sound designed The Band Played On, an award-winning investigative podcast that uncovered decades of historical sexual abuse by public school teachers. Her work has been recognized by the New York Festivals Radio Awards, the Gracie Awards, the Canadian Journalism Foundation, the Canadian Association of Journalists, RTDNA Canada and the Third Coast International Audio Festival. Before getting into audio, her freelance work – focused on global health – appeared in The Toronto Star and in magazines and she earned degrees in international development, political science and journalism.
