Michael Silverman has covered the business of sports as well as general assignment sports stories for the Boston Globe since 2019. Among the stories Silverman has written about are baseball labor and economics issues, the evolving college sports landscape, women’s sports, local expansion efforts of sports teams, the introduction of sports betting to Massachusetts, growth strategies of Boston sports owners, developments in sponsorship, marketing and venues of Boston teams, profiles of sports executives, and pickleball.

With Baseball Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez, Silverman co-wrote Martinez’ “Pedro” memoir, a New York Times best-seller.

Silverman won an APSE breaking news award while covering the Red Sox for the Boston Herald between 1995 and 2019 as a beat reporter and columnist. Silverman covered four Red Sox World Series teams and traveled across North America as well as to Japan, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to cover the team and earn lifetime Titanium elite status at Marriott.

Silverman served as chair of the Boston chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America as well as on national BBWAA committees.

He has been a voter for the Baseball Hall of Fame since 2007.

Silverman is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
