X at Precinct fuses night life with comic book art

    Friday, 10 p.m., Precinct, 70 Union Square, Somerville. 617-623-9211,

The deal: The idea of fusing night life with comic book art came to DJ Rufaro in a dream. “And I hadn’t seen it done before,” she explains, “so I figured, why not?” X, a new monthly EDM night, returns for the second time to the back bar at Precinct. Expect to hear a whole host of synthetic subgenres from DJ Rufaro and Golden Touch (of Audio Chemists) — trap, moombahton, and electro-house, to name a few. “We are also working with a comic book artist,” says DJ Golden Touch, whose alter ego, Grand Master Splinter, surfaces during X. That artist “will be providing an ongoing story line and comic strip,” says Golden Touch, and both the DJs and their guests will serve as the comic book characters.

The DJs: Audio Chemists and Rufaro

Three songs you might hear: Down & Out (eSenTRIK remix)” by Cam’ron feat. Kanye West; “Sweet Nothing” by Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch (Diplo & Grandtheft Remix); “Destructo” by LA Funky feat. Oliver

On the horizon: DJ Golden Touch explains that “as the word begins to spread and attendance picks up, we will be encouraging fans to come dressed up as comic characters — sort of like Comic-Con.” Plans to incorporate visual elements are also forthcoming. “It’s going to get a lot more elaborate,” says Rufaro.

The tip: Parking can be difficult given how small the lot in front is, so it would be wise to arrive at Precinct by 9:30 p.m.
