Geidt, who died in August at 83, was renowned for his versatility, his teaching ability, and his willingness to mentor young actors. He performed in more than 100 ART productions over the years, including “The Seagull,’’ “The Tempest,’’ “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’’ “Heartbreak House,’’ “The Caretaker,’’ “Buried Child,’’ and “Waiting for Godot.’’

In a Globe obituary, Robert Brustein, the ART’s founding director, called Geidt “irreplaceable as a human being and as an artist,’’ adding: “He was a mainstay of the company as an actor and a mainstay of the institution as a teacher. He embodied the greatest ideals of the nonprofit theater world and, I must say, the ART. I don’t know what we’re going to do without him.’’
