A New Edition biopic is in the works, and BET Networks has announced the cast who’ll portray the Boston pop group. Child and adult actors were cast in the leading roles in the three-part miniseries, which goes back to the boys’ childhoods and follows the group’s rise from Roxbury’s Orchard Park housing projects to music superstardom. Bryshere Y. Gray and Dante Hoagland will play Michael Bivins; Elijah Kelley and Caleb McLaughlin will play Ricky Bell; Keith Powers and Myles Truitt will play Ronnie DeVoe; Algee Smith and Jahi Winston will play Ralph Tresvant;Woody McClain and Tyler Williams will play Bobby Brown; and Luke James will play Johnny Gill. This biopic should be legit, as it carries serious street cred: DeVoe, Brown, Bell, Bivins, Tresvant, and Gill are co-producers, along with New Edition’s manager-choreographer-mentor Brooke Payne. The miniseries is to premiere on BET in 2017.Emily Sweeney can be reached at email@example.com. Follow her on Twitter @emilysweeney.
