Like Jon Stewart, the autism benefit special called “Night of Too Many Stars” is moving from Comedy Central to HBO. The event will be broadcast live from the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York on Nov. 18, with Stewart hosting. The proceeds will go to Robert Smigel’s NEXT for AUTISM nonprofit organization, which helps improve the lives of those with autism spectrum disorder.
The night, a mixture of sketches, stand-up, and short films, will include a star-studded cast. Among the names announced so far: Louis C.K., Stephen Colbert, Olivia Munn, Abbi Jacobson, Jordan Klepper, Hasan Minhaj, John Mulaney, John Oliver, and Adam Sandler.
Stewart has been hosting “Night of Too Many Stars” since 2005, and the event has raised $24 million since then. As he puts it in the HBO ad for this year’s benefit, “There’s a lot of begging.”Matthew Gilbert can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @MatthewGilbert.
