My friend George Clooney is going to star in and direct a limited series based on Joseph Heller’s 1961 novel “Catch-22.” OK, he’s not my friend, but the rest is true.
No network is attached to the project yet, but you can bet that will change soon.
Clooney will play Colonel Cathcart, played by Martin Balsam in Mike Nichols’s 1970 movie adaptation, which also starred Alan Arkin, Buck Henry, Bob Balaban, and Richard Benjamin. No costars have been announced yet, but we know that it will be six episodes long, and those episodes will be co-written by Luke Davies (“Lion”) and David Michôd (“War Machine”).
“Catch-22” will be Clooney’s first regular TV role since “ER.”Matthew Gilbert can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @MatthewGilbert.
