Mark Burnett is one of the driving forces behind reality TV, as the producer of a number of unscripted series including “Survivor” and “The Apprentice.”

But he has another side, as the producer, with his wife, Roma Downey, of a number of religious and spiritual shows including History’s “The Bible” and NBC’s “A.D.: The Bible Continues.” Now, he and Downey are producing another religion-themed story, this one a 10-episode scripted drama called “Messiah.” It will be available on Netflix in 2019.

The story is about the modern world’s response to a man who claims he is the Messiah. Is he the real deal, or is he going to cause big trouble and possibly take over the world? “‘Messiah’ will have every viewer asking the question ‘Is he or isn’t he?,’’’ show creator Michael Petroni said in a statement. “How you answer that question may reveal more about you than it does about the show. ‘Messiah’ challenges us to examine what we believe and why.”
