The miniseries will follow Bobby Brown’s life after his departure from New Edition.

Last year, “The New Edition Story” broke ratings records for BET. So I guess “The Bobby Brown Story” was inevitable. BET has announced a few significant cast members for the two-part miniseries, which is now filming in Atlanta and will premiere in September.

Who’s playing Brown? Woody McClain, who played him in the New Edition miniseries, which chronicled the band members’ upbringing in Boston and their rise to fame. “The Bobby Brown Story” will follow Brown’s abrupt exit from the boy band, his affair with Janet Jackson, his marriage to Whitney Houston, his battle with addiction, and the loss of his daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

Mekhi Phifer will play Tommy Brown, Bobby’s brother. Lil Rel Howery will play business manager Brian Irvine, T.K. Carter will be Bobby’s father, and Alyssa Goss will play Bobby’s current wife, Alicia Etheridge. No word yet on the casting of Jackson or Houston.
