I’m a big fan of Natalie Dormer’s performance in “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” the new six-part series from Amazon. As the headmistress of a girls’ finishing school in the Australian bush, she’s wonderfully, rivetingly twisted as she rains down abuse on her students.

And she was unforgettable in both “Game of Thrones,” as Margaery Tyrell, and “The Tudors,” as Anne Boleyn. She can be ferocious and kittenish at the same time.

Now Dormer is embarking on a new TV project that sounds perfect for her. She is planning to produce and star in a series about the life and the work of Hollywood star Vivien Leigh. Each episode of the show will revolve around a different project in her life, taking some cues from Kendra Bean’s 2013 biography, “Vivien Leigh: An Intimate Portrait.”

Leigh won a Tony Award and two Oscars, she was married to Laurence Olivier, and she battled mental illness. So yeah, there’s no shortage of strong material for Dormer to dig into.
