After interview, ‘Sad Affleck’ goes viral

Don’t cry, Ben!

At least that’s what some people on the Internet were saying on Friday when an interview with Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill went viral.

In the video, put together by YouTube user Sabconth, Cavill and Affleck are asked about how the reviews of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” have affected them.

Then, as Cavill begins to answer the question more in-depth, Affleck’s eyes drop down and a look of defeat appears to eclipse his face. That’s when Simon and Garfunkel begin — “Hello darkness, my old friend.”

The footage was taken from a Yahoo Movies interview conducted by Tom Butler, who said that it was the first time Affleck and Cavill had spoken to press since the reviews had come out.

The critics have not been kind to the latest DC Comics film. The Boston Globe’s own Ty Burr called the movie “dark and chaotic,” with some special words aimed at the new Caped Crusader.

“Affleck is aiming for a character here, but he gets lost on the way, and you miss the cruel, clean inscrutability of Christian Bale in the Christopher Nolan ‘Batman’ films,” wrote Burr in his review.

In the Yahoo interview, Cavill stated while critics have had mixed responses to the film, “what is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says.”

Affleck is not the first celebrity to be hit by a “sad” meme. The “Sad Keanu” meme generated so much attention, that Keanu Reeves responded to it during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit two years ago.
