Leia, Lando, and a spectacular Rey: Watch the trailer for ‘Star Wars’ final chapter
Fans of the “Star Wars” franchise are abuzz after the release Friday of the first teaser trailer for the final chapter in the saga that started in 1977.
Episode nine will be subtitled “The Rise of Skywalker,” director J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced at the “Star Wars” Celebration event in Chicago, according to Variety.
The two-minute preview focuses largely on Rey (Daisy Ridley) but gives tantalizing glimpses of longtime franchise favorites, including Carrie Fisher’s General Leia. After Fisher died in late 2016, it was unclear to what extent she would appear in the final film.
The trailer also shows the Millennium Falcon being helmed by Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian. Williams hasn’t been seen in a “Star Wars” film since 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”
Mark Hamill, whose Luke Skywalker may or may not be the titular role, isn’t shown in the clip, but his voice can be heard intoning, “No one’s ever really gone.”
Also returning are the young cast members introduced in 2015’s “The Force Awakens” and 2017’s “The Last Jedi,” including John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.
