Saturday, 10 p.m. Machine, 1254 Boylston St., Boston. 617-536-1950, www.machine-boston.com.
The deal: Sean Caron, the general manager of Machine, has wanted to start an underground techno night for a while. “I’ve been waiting for the right time to do it,” he says. “Things are going well enough in other areas that freed me up to pursue some passion projects.” With the new night Inner, which kicks off Saturday, Caron wants to build the city’s stature as a destination for his favorite kind of music. “It’s tough in Boston for underground music, but the pockets for it are outstanding in their own right,” he says. “We’ll just try to make something big and prominent in Boston, where we can bring in some of that big international talent that I know people want to hear.”
The DJs: Caron, a.k.a. DJ Sense, and local techno queenpin Volvox. “When I’m in doubt I’ll put her up there and I know I’m going to get that sound I’m looking for,” says Caron. “She definitely brings it. I like to play hard, too, but on that night I’ll be building up to her.”
Three artists you’ll hear: Matador, Bryan Zentz, and UMEK.
Who goes there: “The crowd in Boston that is really looking for that other side of the music world,” says Caron. “We’re trying to provide that for them without having to travel 100 or 1,000 miles away, and hopefully people will come here eventually.”
