Don’t Ask Don’t Tell with Mykki Blanco
Saturday, 9 p.m. Great Scott. 1222 Commonwealth Ave., Allston. 21+. Tickets: $10. 617-566-9014, www.greatscottboston.com.
The deal: Hip-hop meets avant-drag when Michael Quattlebaum Jr. (a.k.a. Mykki Blanco) graces the stage at Great Scott. The self-described “acid punk rapper” has been sweeping the nation since dropping his debut full-length, “Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss,” last November. Colby Drasher, event curator and resident DJ, describes Saturday’s party as a “comprehensive experience” with video projections, a light show, and a fun, unique atmosphere where attendees can let loose and be themselves. “I wanted to create a space where everyone can come and experiment with their identity, and be exposed to new artists that push the [limits].”
The DJs: Drasher with DJ Nathanael Bluhm and Brizgnar will mix their signature beats before the midnight set from Blanco.
What to wear: “Go over the top,” says Drasher. “Be playful, be anything from sexy to crazy to wild and fabulous.”
Who goes: “Our motto is all are welcome who welcome all,” says Drasher. “We’re not for any certain demographic or niche.”
The tip: Drasher suggests that prospective attendees prepare for the scene and “bring the truest form of yourself.”
