SCUBA AT RISE
Friday night into Saturday morning, 1 a.m.-6 a.m. Rise, 306 Stuart St., Boston. With DiGi, Evaready, and Soulfood. 18+ Tickets: $10 members, $20 guests. www.riseclub.us, 617-423-7473.
The deal: Berlin-via-London producer and Hotflush Recordings founder Scuba makes his way stateside, and he’ll stop in Back Bay on Friday for an after-hours party at Rise. Whether forerunning dubstep’s commercial explosion or venturing into house and techno, Scuba (a.k.a. Paul Rose) has maintained a cerebral touch that fits the hypnotic vibe of late-night parties, says Rise creative director Mike Swells. “He walks that thin line of being dark, moody, and tense, and then having these points of euphoria that are entirely driven by his own acumen in the studio,” says Swells, who has also been spinning at the club since 2004. “It’s a very deliberate experience.”
The DJs: Local name DiGi will hold down the main floor before Scuba gets behind the tables. Down in the lounge, Evaready and Soulfood will offer a “warmer contrast to the darker and more serious music that you’ll get upstairs,” says Swells.
Who will be there: Swells expects a crowd of “clued-in music fans” to fill the room. “Scuba is a bit of an underground name, but he has a tremendous amount of name recognition within that community,” he says.
The tip: There’s no dress code at Rise. Feel free to wear your most comfortable sneakers so your feet survive until the early morning.Andrew Doerfler can be reached at email@example.com.
