WE ARE MUSIC PRESENTS RIGHT NOW!: A Climate Change Awareness and Philippines Benefit Event
At: Brooklyn Boulders Somerville, 12A Tyler St., Somerville. Saturday night, 6 p.m. to midnight. Tickets: $25 or $60 including premium beverage sampling all evening. 21+. www.wearemusic.us
The deal: There’s nothing better than bringing activism to an active setting: Brooklyn Boulders will host local musicians, scientists, activists, beverage and food brands, and more. All proceeds will go to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines through Architecture for Humanity, which is working to rebuild the structures damaged and destroyed by the typhoon. “Music and art can be an effective and universal language,” said We Are Music founder Summer Forest. “It’s the most powerful way to reach people.”
The performers: Live sets from Escort and Bearstronaut; DJ sets from The Juan Maclean, DJ Kon, and DJ Ryan Brown.
The speakers: Michael Mann, Jack Healey, Cameron Wake, and Bhikku Bodhi participate in a panel discussion about building a broad youth movement to address climate change. Plus, a special video message from Bill McKibben.
The dress: Wear something danceable, but no heels are allowed.
The drink: Sponsoring breweries will be offering special batches.
The tip: “Get there early and don’t miss the open oyster bar and discussion panel. If you can’t make it, donate on the event website,” said Forest.
