Howl at the Moon presents LOVE SUX: AN ANTI-VALENTINE’S DAY PARTY
At: Howl at the Moon, 184 High St., Boston. Friday, 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. $10 cover fee. 617-292-4695, www.howlatthemoon.com/dueling_piano_bar/anti-valentines-day-party
The deal: Who says you need romance to enjoy Valentine’s Day? That’s why dueling piano bar Howl at the Moon is hosting its ninth annual “Love Sux,” an anti-Valentine’s Day party. “This is nowhere near a singles pity party,” says Valerie van Gerven, marketing manager of Howl at the Moon. “People come in and get crazy, ready to let loose and celebrate being single.” Attendees can freely couple up for a range of games as well, from marshmallow eating contests to passing oranges with necks — and winners can get up to $500 or year-long VIP passes for five. The lower level club at Howl at the Moon opens at 10 p.m. with DJ’s and house music for no additional cover.
The drink: Share the 24-ounce “Ex-Boyfriend” with a friend ($14) or enjoy an “F-Bomb” ($6)
The sounds: Howl at the Moon bases its shows off audience requests with all live pianos, drums, saxophones, and guitars. The top three hits most likely to be played are CeeLo Green’s “Forget You,” (in its original form, of course), Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around, Comes Around,” and the Weather Girls’ “It’s Raining Men.”
The tip: The line starts to form around 8 p.m., so come early. Bring a mutilated picture of an ex to skirt the $10 cover.
