MADEON AT ROYALE
At Royale, 279 Tremont St., Boston. Friday, Aug. 29. 10 p.m. (ends at 2 a.m.). Tickets: $20-$30 617-338-7699, www.ticketfly.com
The Deal: In the summer of 2011, teenage producer Hugo Pierre Leclercq uploaded a video to YouTube in which he mashed up 39 different songs, his fingers furiously dancing from one button to the next. He sampled everyone from Gorillaz and Ke$ha to Madonna and Daft Punk, fashioning a singular track he titled “Pop Culture.” He took the name Madeon, and 25 million views later he has become a bona fide star in electronic music culture. Now 20, the French producer headlines tonight at Royale.
The Music: Madeon’s specialty is French house, with songs that dip and swell in ecstatic synth-based arrangements. Expect a set filled with relentlessly danceable music, touching on elements of disco and electronica throughout the night. Singles like “The City” and “Finale” are sure to have hardcore fans singing along.
The Dress: Despite the venue imposing no specific dress code, the ritzy club environment of Royale suggests an outfit a little nicer than your usual Friday duds. Stated bluntly: “Dress like you mean it.”
The Tip: While Madeon may have reached the ripe age of 20, this is a 21+ event, so your underage friends will have to sit this one out.Raffaela Kenny-Cincotta can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
