Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Justin Lubin/NBC

Go On 9 p.m., Channel 7

It’s a full-fledged “Friends” reunion, with the entire gang except Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer. That’s right, it’s Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox (pictured) — Chandler and Monica — appearing together on Perry’s show. She plays a recent widow Ryan wants to date, but the plot thickens when wingman Anne starts to compete with him for her attentions. There’s a lot of good stuff in this show, and yet it’s less than addictive and the ratings show that. Right now, “Go On” is, as they say, on the bubble.

The Truman Show 8 p.m., IFC

Have you seen Spike’s “The Joe Schmo Show,” the reality series that all the contestants but one know is fake? It smacks of this dark 1998 comedy, which still feels relevant, especially as our world becomes increasingly filled with cameras. It’s one of those classics that didn’t get nominated for best picture (or for best actor for Jim Carrey, who is great), but that will probably endure. The strong cast includes Peter Krause, Laura Linney, Ed Harris, Paul Giamatti,
Natascha McElhone, and Noah Emmerich, who is currently on “The Americans.”
