Fall to Grace 8 p.m., HBO

“My truth is that I am a gay American,” New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey (pictured) announced in 2004. Since then, he has reassessed and regrouped and reinvented, and he now serves as a spiritual adviser for women in prison. Filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, has made a documentary about his journey of redemption.


Jesus: Rise to Power 8 p.m., National Geographic Channel

I wish the historian featured in this study wasn’t named Dr. Michael Scott. But I digress. The three-hour show looks at how and why the cult of Jesus grew from a persecuted minority to the official religion of the Roman Empire in only 400 years. Beautiful desert-scapes? Check. British narrator? Check. Cheesy re-creations? Check.
